PETACCHI IS THE FASTEST AT DONORATICO

Alessandro Petacchi (LPR) made it five-in-a-row at the Gran Premio Costa degli Etruschi. The renowned Italian sprinter was again the fastest on the bunch at the mass finish that got the 14th edition of the Italian semiclassic, after a flat 197-km finishing at Donoratico. Petacchi overcame Guarnieri (Liquigas) and Hunter (Barloworld) at the final straight after a 4-and-a-half-hour journey, raced in a pretty fast pace, which saw a nearly 100-km breakaway from Grivko and Visconti (both from ISD) being chased down by the peloton at the 20-km mark.

FUJI-SERVETTO’s Ricardo Serrano, Josep Jufre and William Walker (13th, 16th and 18th) were the best placed riders of the team, while Camano and Capelli came into the main bunch. The next race for the “Boys in Blue” will start on next Monday, with the Tour de Langkawi (2.HC), the most prestigious race on the Asian continent, being raced on Malaysian turf.
