Fuji-Servetto strong through Stage 4 of Sardinia
The Italian top sprinter notched up the stage win in the city of Cagliari to take the race’s leadership, while Jesus del Nero (FUJI-SERVETTO) keeps his spot as 4th in the GC, before tomorrow’s finishing ride. Feverish before the stage, Davide Vigano gives up.
BENNATI IS THE NEW LEADER AT SARDINIA
Daniele Bennati (Liquigas) took the leadership of the 27th Giro di Sardinia today, after grabbing the stage win at a mass sprint in the 4th, penultimate fraction of the course from Tortoli to Oristano, over 147 kilometers.
The Italian sprinter overcame Mirko Lorenzetto (Lampre) to take the first position out of Oscar Gatto’s (ISD) hands, while Jesus del Nero (FUJI-SERVETTO), is still in the fourth spot of the GC, just behind Bennati, Gatto and world champion Alessandro Ballan (Lampre). The stage’s start brought up an early breakaway by Mauro Abel Richeze (CSF), Alessandro Maserati (Flaminia) and Sergiy Gretchyn (Amore e Vita), which were brought back by the peloton in the 114th kilometer place, after more than 100 kms on the lead.
Tomorrow’s stage closes the race down, as the last bonifications of 10, 6 and 4 seconds at Cagliari’s traguardo, with a 143-km stage starting at Carbonia, might become decisive for the final race outcome at the Italian course.
