FUJI-SERVETTO’s Hilton Clarke from Australia finished the second stage of the Malaysian Tour of Langkawi, a 160-km trip from Senawang to Melaka, in a respectable fifth place. Clarke struggled for the win at the mass sprint that brought the peloton to the finish, in which leader jersey’s holder, Italian Mattia Gavazzi (Diquigiovanni), showed again what shape he is made out of by taking his second victory in a row for two raced stages.

Apart from Clarke, all riders from FUJI-SERVETTO came into the main bunch, after a stage that saw Oscar Pujol (Cervélo) and Alexandr Pliuschin (Ag2r) break apart for 125 kilometres, before being brought back by the main field with 5 k’s remaining. Diquigiovanni and Garmin were the early pacers for the breakaway’s chase, until leaving his place for the FUJI-SERVETTO squad, which assumed main responsibility on the race tempo for the last ten kilometres, so as to strengthen Clarke’s options, well backed up by Davide Vigano’s leading-out in the sprint. The third stage of the Malaysian course will be raced tomorrow, with 186 kilometres to be completed on a loop around Melaka.
