David de al Fuente takes 9th at the Tour de San Luis

Central Argentinean lands saw the 3rd edition of the Tour de San Luis start, with a 168-km stage from the province’s capital city to Villa Mercedes. The race finished with an eventful bunch sprint as Italy’s Mattia Gavazzi (Diquigiovanni) crossed first to take the flowers. David de la Fuente (FUJI-SERVETTO) came in ninth place.

Misfortune at Argentina

The bad news came from youngster Hector Gonzalez, a crash in the last kilometer of the stage left him with a broken right collarbone. Gonzalez abandoned the race and is traveling to Spain for medical checks.

“A dog crossed on my way, and I couldn’t do anything,” Hector explained from the medical center. “I went over the handlebars and the shoulder got hit all the way. When I rose, I already knew I had broken my collarbone. At least, the fracture seems to be very clean, and it might not need an operation to heal. The surgeons told me it should get joined in three to four weeks, and I might take up competing again after that. It’s a pity to start this way, but there’s still the whole season ahead of us.”
